It’s important
for residents to take security issues seriously. You need to
realize the important role that you have in the “Teamwork Effort”
needed to combat any type of vandalism, theft, or any other form of
illegal behavior.
During the past
two decades of my Law Enforcement Career, I have discovered that
there are basically two types of people in this world. (Good & Bad)
Each of us gets to choose who we will be and how we will impact the
people around us, either negatively or positively. As I look around
town, I see a good diversity of people and I believe that’s one of
the great things about Voorhees. We live, work, and play next to
one another, in a good community. The Voorhees Police need
residents who care about their neighbors and community. We need you
to help us be “The Eyes and Ears” of your neighborhood. Therefore
we encourage you to call the police when things just don’t seem
right. We also ask that you keep watch on your block as you know
your neighborhoods better than anyone else.
Voorhees
Township is about 12 square miles and reaches from the Ashland Speed
line Station, near Evesham and Burnt Mill Roads., out to State
Highway Rt. 73 from Kresson Road. to Lafayette Ave. Wherever your
home is located in Voorhees, you need to know that the Voorhees
Police care about your safety and will be there to assist you, if
ever the need be. We do however ask that residents take some basic
Crime Prevention precautions on a regular basis.
 |
Doors and
windows on your home and vehicles need to kept locked at all times.
(Even when you are home) |
 |
Deadbolt
locks should be used along with 2-3inch long screws to reinforce the
lock’s strike plates. |
 |
If you have
a burglar alarm, it should be turned on when ever you leave the
house. It should also be monitored by an alarm company and kept in
good working condition. Your alarm also needs to be also registered
with the police department, in case of an emergency call.
|
 |
Your home
address needs to be visible from the street in large 3inch numbers,
to assist emergency responders. |
 |
Exterior
lighting should be kept in operating condition and interior lights
placed on timers, to give your home a lived in look. |
 |
If someone
knocks on your front door, go and see who it is. (Don’t let someone
think the house is empty or no one is home.) Do not open the door
for someone you don’t know. Just say, “No Thanks!” to strangers.
Talk to them through a closed window or through the front door.
|
 |
Tell only
trusted friends and family members where and when you go away on
vacation. Also make sure they have a key to the home and know how
to disarm the alarm, if necessary. |
 |
The Voorhees
Police will conduct a daily check of your home while you are away.
Just call the Voorhees Police Dispatchers at 428-5400 and ask them
about a “House Check”. |
 |
Voorhees
Police Dispatchers are Voorhees Township civilian employees and are
ready to answer, 24 hours a day 7 days a week, any non-emergency or
911 emergency telephone calls coming from your home or business.
Please remember that at the present time, a 911 call placed from a
cell phone may not go directly to the Voorhees Police. You may need
to ask for a Voorhees Police Dispatcher. For this reason, it is
important for you to know what town you are in and the name of the
road you are traveling. |
