Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week is an annual observance in the United States dedicated to recognizing and honoring the local, state, and federal peace officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice or have been disabled while serving in the line of duty.In 1962, President John F. Kennedy established May 15th to honor these officers by issuing a Presidential Proclamation that calls for all U.S. flags to be flown at half-staff. This tradition serves as a reminder of the risks our officers face daily and the importance of their commitment to our communities. Their dedication and bravery inspire us all. We are grateful for the support in recognizing and honoring our dedicated brothers and sisters who serve and protect us. We encourage everyone to continue showing appreciation for their commitment and sacrifices.www.policeweek.org/... See MoreSee Less

The Voorhees Police Department is proud to host Voorhees youth every summer for a week as part of our Junior Police Academy program. Kids between the ages of 10-15 will report to our Police Administration Building for several hours a day during a five-day period. During their time with our agency, the children will participate in drill and ceremony (marching), physical fitness training by certified police academy fitness instructors, hands-on patrol tactics training through mock scenarios and car stops, and a demonstration from our K-9 Unit. During the week, the children will see demonstrations from various special units, including the crime scene unit. The capacity for the program is limited to 25 participants. Selection process includes checks with family, neighbors, and schools to ensure the candidates will be a positive addition to the learning environment for other students and will not have an issue with following directions in a para-military style academy experience. All uniform requirements must be followed. Failure to follow Junior Police Academy rules or the instructor's directions will result in the child being dismissed from the program. The Junior Police Academy strives to educate kids on what it is really like to go through a police academy. It is meant for youth who are considering a career in law enforcement. Children who have not already participated in the program will be given preference. The dates of the 2025 Junior Police Academy will be July 14 - 18, 2025.Please contact Sgt. Eric Camm with any questions at 856-882-1104 or via email at ecamm@vtpd.com. Registrations for the 2025 Junior Police Academy will close on June 13, 2025.
