UNION, NJ – 10/18/18, Captain Carmen Del Palazzo of the Voorhees Township Police Department received the Traffic Safety Specialist, Level – I, Leadership designation at the Ocean County Police Traffic Officers’ Association event held on Thursday, October 18th.
The Traffic Safety Specialist (TSS) program was first established in Maryland to recognize police officers who had attained notable experience, education, training, and proficiency in Highway Safety Enforcement methods and procedures. Eligibility involves officers enrolling in the program and submitting documentation on employment, completion of appropriate certifications, and permission of employers. Level 1 requirements include three years of independent patrol experience, speed detection device certification, standard field sobriety certification, and 30 points of earned electives. Also, points are awarded for documented college experience. Captain Del Palazzo joins Voorhees Police Traffic Officer Josh Cramer, who is also part of this elite group.
This voluntary program was first piloted through the Ocean County Police Traffic Officers Association in February 2016. There are over 100 awardees in New Jersey. Several officers are also participating in TSS Level 2 that involves the development and implementation of a technical study to improve traffic safety conditions in the sponsoring community.

Voorhees Police Helps Promote Annual
“Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day”
(Voorhees) — Motorists in New Jersey and throughout the nation are asked to join a day-long effort on October 10, 2018, designed to increase awareness about safe driving behaviors and keep the State’s roadways fatality free for one-day.
Known as Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day, the national initiative was designed to unite the country in moving toward zero fatalities for one full day by encouraging motorists to obey all traffic laws, including buckling up, every ride; driving the posted speed limit; avoiding distractions while driving; and always being safe and sober behind the wheel. Our goal is to experience a day when all roadway users are extra vigilant and there are no fatalities on our roadways.
In 2017, New Jersey saw 624 individuals lost their lives in motor vehicle related crashes, up from 602 in 2016 and 562 in 2015. Never forget, there is a face behind each and every one of these tragic numbers! Statewide, law enforcement agencies will be utilizing their variable message boards and conducting educational activities to raise public awareness regarding this issue during the week of October 1st ending with “Brakes on Fatalities Day on October 10th.
