  • Residential Dwelling Fire

    At 11:10 pm, Voorhees Police were dispatched to the unit block of Hidden Acres Drive for a residential dwelling fire that quickly engulfed the entire residence. The occupants were able to self evacuate and arriving Officers secured a perimeter. The fire was suppressed by Voorhees Fire District along with mutual aid from Cherry Hill, West Berlin, Lindenwold, & Magnolia.

    At this time, the family is currently staying with relatives. The Camden County Fire Marshall, Camden County Prosecutors Office and Voorhees Detectives are investigating to establish the cause. There were no reported injuries to residents nor emergency personnel.

  • Residential Apartment Fire

    At 9:48 am, Voorhees Police were dispatched to the 296 Building of Echelon Road for an apartment fire that quickly spread. Arriving Officers evacuated the involved and surrounding units.  As police secured a perimeter, the fire was suppressed by Voorhees Fire District along with mutual aid from Cherry Hill, Gibbsboro, West Berlin, Lindenwold, Laurel Springs & Somerdale.

    At this time, 10 families have been displaced until Township Engineers can determine the structural integrity of the building and utilities restored. The Red Cross and building management are working to provide placement. The Camden County Fire Marshall, Camden County Prosecutors Office and Voorhees Detectives are investigating to establish the cause. There were no reported injuries to residents nor emergency personnel, however a dog did perish from the fire.

  • Motor Vehicle Crash

    At approximately 7:11pm Voorhees Police Units were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash in the area of Evesham Road and Avian Plaza. Preliminary investigation by police revealed the following:

    A 2002 Toyota Celica, operated solely by a Marlton, New Jersey resident, Sengching Hwang age 64, was traveling Eastbound on Evesham Road when it struck a 2011 Hyundai Elantra operated solely by a Hi-Nella, New Jersey resident, Kimberly Wardwell age 32, who was attempting to exit the Avian Plaza. Both vehicles then veered off the roadway before striking several trees. Voorhees Police were on scene immediately as well as Emergency Medical Personnel rendering aid. Kimberly Wardwell was transported to Cooper Hospital where her condition is listed as stable. Sengching Hwang was transported to Virtua Hospital in Marlton where Hospital Personnel advised she succumbed to her injuries at 7:56pm.

    The crash investigation is still ongoing and being investigated by Voorhees Police.

  • Pedestrian / Motor Vehicle Crash

    Update:

    In regards to the below crash, the Voorhees Police have charged the driver Samuel Distefano of Tabernacle, NJ, age 47, with Reckless Driving (39:4-96), Use of Wireless telephone, electronic communication device in moving vehicle (39:4-97.3) & Failure to wear seatbelt (39:3-76.2f). This matter will be heard in CJP Court on May 7th in Camden, NJ. Upon completion of the crash investigation, this case will be forwarded to the Camden County Prosecutors Office for review.

    Original Press Release:

    At approximately 8:21pm Voorhees Police Units were dispatched to a pedestrian motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Evesham Road & Kresson Road. Investigation by police revealed the following: A 1990 Ford Ranger pickup truck, operated by a Medford resident, was traveling Eastbound on Evesham Road when it struck two Cherry Hill residents (mother/daughter) that were
    attempting to cross Evesham Road at Kresson Road. Both female victims have been identified as, Serafina Fel (age 63, mother) and Anna Veksler (age 38, daughter). They were both taken to Cooper Trauma Hospital for their injuries. Voorhees Police was advised by hospital personnel that Serafina Fel had succumbed to her injuries at 9:08PM.

    Anna Veksler has been listed in extremely critical condition and is being treated for life threatening injuries. The operator of the vehicle did stop at the scene and provide a statement.

    At this time, the investigation is still ongoing, but initial reports indicate distracted driving was a factor in the crash.

    The vehicle driver will be identified if charges are filed.
