Voorhees, New Jersey – On Sunday, April 28th, 2019, at approximately 10:22 p.m. officers of the Voorhees Police Department were dispatched to the 1500 block of Chestnut Avenue for a suicidal person with a weapon. The caller indicated that he was distraught and intended to harm himself.
Upon arrival to the scene, officers secured a perimeter to keep bystanders away and made numerous attempts to contact the caller, which went unanswered. The Lower Camden County Regional Special Response Team, which is comprised of Law Enforcement personnel from Voorhees, Pine Hill, Berlin Twp., Berlin Boro & Waterford, was summoned to the scene to assist with communication attempts and tactics. Upon their arrival they were able to safely evacuate a neighboring family.
At approximately 1:30 am, SRT team operators made entry into the residence and found the 66-year-old male resident deceased and alone in the residence from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Shortly thereafter the scene was declared safe.

This recognition is based on a national search. Law Enforcement Against Drugs (L.E.A.D.) is a non profit (501C3) organization, supported by dedicated police officers, committed to protecting our youth and communities from the proliferation of drugs, drug related crimes, peer to peer/cyber bullying and violence. We achieve our goals by collaborating with educators, community leaders, families and L.E.A.D. support organizations. To create safer, healthier communities free of drugs, bullying, and violence.
Officer Jon Daddario grew up in Voorhees, New Jersey and graduated from Eastern Regional High School in 2009. Jon attended Widener University and graduated in 2013 with a degree in Criminal Justice. He was sworn in as a Voorhees Township Police Officer in May of 2014. After two years of working patrol he was assigned to the Community Affairs Bureau as a School Resource Officer.
Officer Daddario is currently assigned to the Voorhees Middle School. He teaches the L.E.A.D. program to 6th graders along with School Resource Officers Chase Waldman, Mark Paranto, and Patrick Billingsley.

Voorhees, NJ (01/30/2019): The Voorhees Police Department is excited to announce our 4th Citizen’s Police Academy which will begin on Tuesday, 03/12/2019 and meet on most Tuesday nights from 6:30PM-9:30PM, concluding with a graduation ceremony on 05/14/2019 (final dates TBA). The training will take place at our Police Headquarters and several off-site locations. This course will offer our residents an inside exclusive look at the training and behind the scenes activities that make the Voorhees Police Department function in a professional, effective, and efficient manner on a daily basis.
“This is yet another program that we feel will expand our community-based efforts. It will continue to keep open lines of communication and create a better understanding for the community about police officer operations, specifically here in Voorhees,” said Voorhees Police Chief Louis Bordi.
The course will cover:
This course will host approximately 30 Voorhees residents, ages 18 and over. Applicants will be required to successfully pass a background examination including warrant, NCIC, driver’s license checks, and NJ and Interstate Criminal History checks. Those who are accepted will be notified via email. Selected applicants will also need to complete a waiver of liability form.

Members of the Voorhees Police Department participated in No Shave November in 2018 to raise funds and awareness for the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.
Today our officers presented a check for over $3,000.00 to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation from the funds raised by our officers and staff. We would like to thank Panera Bread of Voorhees for donating breakfast for the event this morning.

Accreditation Assessment Team Invites Public Comment
VOORHEES TOWNSHIP, NJ. A team of assessors from the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP) will arrive on Monday December 3rd , 2018 to examine all aspects of the Voorhees Township Police Department’s policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services, Chief Louis Bordi announced today.
“Verification by the team that the Voorhees Township Police Department meets the Commission’s “best practice” standards is part of a voluntary process to achieve accreditation, a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence”, Chief Louis Bordi said.
As part of this final on-site assessment, employees and members of the general public are invited to provide comments to the assessment team. They may do so by telephone or email. The public may call 856-882-1119 on Monday December 3rd, 2018, between the hours of 11 am and 1 pm. Email comments can be sent to media@vtpd.com.
Telephone comments are limited to 5 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with the NJSACOP standards. The Voorhees Township Police Department must comply with 105 standards in order to achieve accredited status. Chief Louis Bordi indicated, “Accreditation results in greater accountability within the agency, reduced risk and liability exposure, stronger defense against civil lawsuits, increased community advocacy, and more confidence in the agency’s ability to operate efficiently and respond to community needs.”
The Accreditation Program Director for the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police is Mr. Harry J. Delgado, Ed.S. “The assessment team is composed of law enforcement practitioners from similar New Jersey law enforcement agencies. The assessors will review written materials, interview agency members, and visit offices and other places where compliance with the standards can be observed. Once the Commission’s assessors complete their review of the agency, they will report to the full Commission, which will then decide if the agency is to be granted accredited status”, Harry J. Delgado stated.
Accreditation is valid for a three-year period during which time the agency must submit annual reports attesting to their continued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited.
