    Armed Robbery Press Release 4-11-16

    VOORHEES TWP. NJ 4/10/16: The Voorhees Police Department is seeking assistance in identifying two suspects wanted for an armed robbery. The incident occurred Sunday, April 10th, 2016 at approximately 4:50am at the Valero gas station located at 129 Rt. 73 in Voorhees, NJ. Video surveillance shows the suspects pulling into the lot driving an unknown red four door vehicle (with a loud muffler), at which time, the driver exits pointing a handgun, demanding money from the station attendant. The second suspect remains seated in the passenger seat during the entire time of the armed robbery. After the attendant turns over the money, the armed suspect directs the attendant to the register booth where he proceeds to take money from the register. During this time, the suspect is seen striking the attendant’s head with his handgun. The suspect is then seen returning to his vehicle, fleeing S/B on State Highway Rt. 73.

    The armed suspect is described as a male, possibly Caucasian, approximately 5’10” tall, clean shaven, wearing a black hooded jacket, black gloves, black Nike pants, and black shoes. The second suspect has only been described as a male.

  • Voorhees Police & Voorhees Public Schools announce Steered Straight Parent Academy

  • Residential Fire

    VOORHEES TWP. NJ 3/10/16; at approximately 6:55 am, Voorhees Police were dispatched to the 1000 block of Pine Avenue for a garage fire that spread into the residence. The occupants were able to self-evacuate and arriving Officers secured a perimeter. The fire was suppressed by Voorhees Fire District along with mutual aid from surrounding fire departments.
    At this time, the family has been displaced and receiving support from the Red Cross. Fire Officials are investigating to establish the cause. There were no reported injuries to residents, however, one firefighter was taken to an area hospital for an injury sustained during fire suppression. Unfortunately, the family dog did perish from the fire.

  • Officers make handgun arrest

    Press Release-Voorhees Officer recovers loaded firearm during motor vehicle stop  

     

     

    VOORHEES TWP. NJ 03/9/16; at approximately 12:41AM, Voorhees Police Officer Thomas Bordi initiated a motor vehicle stop on County Highway Route 561 with a maroon Lincoln Sedan for motor vehicle violations. Subsequent Police investigation revealed the driver identified as James Johnston (27) from the unit block of Purdue Avenue in New Castle, DE was found to be a fugitive from justice out of Pennsylvania.

     

    During the course of the stop, arrest, and subsequent investigation, Officers located a 9mm handgun loaded with hollow point ammunition. In addition, Mr. Johnston was found to be in possession of a controlled dangerous substance and narcotic paraphernalia.

     

    Mr. Johnston was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of hollow point ammunition, possession of controlled dangerous substance, possession of narcotic paraphernalia, as well as several motor vehicle summons. He was remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 bail. This matter is pending in Superior Court in Camden, New Jersey.

  • Kirkwood Improvement Project-South Jersey Gas

    Construction on the South Jersey Gas lines, including some roadway work will begin on Monday, 2/22/2016 on Pine Avenue near Spino Court.  Please be aware of the activity in the area and give yourself a few extra minutes when travelling. We will continue to keep you posted as this improvement project moves forward.  The project is anticipated to continue for at least 3 months.
