  • Voorhees Police & Voorhees Public Schools announce Steered Straight Parent Academy

    Voorhees Public Schools and the Voorhees Police Department are proud to announce the Steered Straight Parent Academy at the Voorhees Middle School on Monday, May 2nd beginning at 7PM.   • Residential Fire

    VOORHEES TWP. NJ 3/10/16; at approximately 6:55 am, Voorhees Police were dispatched to the 1000 block of Pine Avenue for a garage fire that spread into the residence. The occupants were able to self-evacuate and arriving Officers secured a perimeter. The fire was suppressed by Voorhees Fire District along with mutual aid from surrounding fire departments.
    At this time, the family has been displaced and receiving support from the Red Cross. Fire Officials are investigating to establish the cause. There were no reported injuries to residents, however, one firefighter was taken to an area hospital for an injury sustained during fire suppression. Unfortunately, the family dog did perish from the fire.

  • Officers make handgun arrest

    Press Release-Voorhees Officer recovers loaded firearm during motor vehicle stop  

     

     

    VOORHEES TWP. NJ 03/9/16; at approximately 12:41AM, Voorhees Police Officer Thomas Bordi initiated a motor vehicle stop on County Highway Route 561 with a maroon Lincoln Sedan for motor vehicle violations. Subsequent Police investigation revealed the driver identified as James Johnston (27) from the unit block of Purdue Avenue in New Castle, DE was found to be a fugitive from justice out of Pennsylvania.

     

    During the course of the stop, arrest, and subsequent investigation, Officers located a 9mm handgun loaded with hollow point ammunition. In addition, Mr. Johnston was found to be in possession of a controlled dangerous substance and narcotic paraphernalia.

     

    Mr. Johnston was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of hollow point ammunition, possession of controlled dangerous substance, possession of narcotic paraphernalia, as well as several motor vehicle summons. He was remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 bail. This matter is pending in Superior Court in Camden, New Jersey.

  • Kirkwood Improvement Project-South Jersey Gas

    Construction on the South Jersey Gas lines, including some roadway work will begin on Monday, 2/22/2016 on Pine Avenue near Spino Court.  Please be aware of the activity in the area and give yourself a few extra minutes when travelling. We will continue to keep you posted as this improvement project moves forward.  The project is anticipated to continue for at least 3 months.

  • VOORHEES RESIDENTS ARE INVITED TO SEE WHAT IT’S LIKE TO BE A POLICE OFFICER

    Voorhees, NJ (February 15, 2016):  The Voorhees Police Department is excited to announce our 1st Citizen Police Academy which will begin on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 and meet for ten Tuesdays from 7:00PM-9:00PM, concluding in May (final dates TBA).  The training will take place at our Police Headquarters and several off-site locations.  This course will offer our residents an inside exclusive look at the training and behind the scenes activities that make the Voorhees Police Department function in a professional, effective, and efficient manner on a daily basis.

    “This is yet another program that we feel will expand our community-based efforts.  It will continue to keep open lines of communication and create a better understanding for the community about police officer operations, specifically here in Voorhees,” said Voorhees Police Chief Lou Bordi.

    The course will cover:

    • Firearms Simulator Training
    • Crime Scene Investigation/Mock Crime Scene
    • A tour of our Police Headquarters
    • Patrol/Investigations Bureaus
    • K-9 Unit demonstrations and meet and greet with our police dogs
    • Police use of force/ Police Stress
    • Central Communications Center (911) Tour
    • Traffic Unit/mock car stops
    • Internal Affairs/Body Worn Cameras
    • Community Affairs/School Safety/Domestic Violence

     

    This course will host 30 Voorhees residents, ages 18 and over.  Applicants will be required to successfully pass a background examination including warrants check, NCIC, driver’s license checks, and NJ and Interstate Criminal History checks.  Those who are accepted will be notified via email.  Selected applicants will also need to complete a waiver of liability form.
